Good Scout helped us navigate a pivotal leadership transition in our organization’s history. They dug in with us to understand our unique culture, our aspirations for impact at scale, and our mission to bridge toxic partisan divides in America. Their partnership gave us clarity and confidence in selecting the right leader to take us forward, and they were delightful to work with, too.
Braver Angels, a national nonprofit leading the movement to bridge America’s growing political divides, faced a critical moment: the transition of its founding president after nearly a decade of leadership. The organization needed a CEO who could uphold its deeply cross-partisan mission, honor its volunteer-driven culture, and expand its impact at a time when America’s divisions have never felt more urgent.
The board sought a leader who could galvanize volunteers, build strategic partnerships, scale organizational capacity, and deepen Braver Angels’ influence on the national stage—someone both visionary and grounded, able to meet a complex moment in our democracy.
Good Scout partnered closely with the Braver Angels board and search committee to design and lead a rigorous and expansive executive search process:
Throughout the process, Good Scout served as a strategic partner, helping Braver Angels weigh trade-offs, assess cultural fit, and connect organizational aspirations with the leadership capabilities required to achieve them.
The search culminated in the appointment of Maury Giles as Braver Angels’ new CEO. Maury is a seasoned executive, dedicated Braver Angels volunteer, and passionate bridge-builder.
This transition marked not just a change in leadership, but a pivotal step toward fulfilling Braver Angels’ mission at scale.
